A few months ago when I saw Alice in Wonderland (by Tim Burton) I immediately wanted to make this post. Finally, with the release of the DVD there are screencaps to describe how awed I was by the costumes. In Alice in Wonderland, the animated Disney version, Alice’s dress never changed. Burton decided to change it up a bit and her dress changed whenever she grew or shrank. Although you know it’s not exact the effort is nice and you end up begging her to change size just so you can see the next dress.

She starts out in this dress. Then falls into Wonderland

Where she shrinks and ends up the in long dress (not shown; second dress)…

But she forgot the key so she has to grow…

And ends up in the second dress again

She shrinks to hide in a teapot…

With a little editing by the Mad Hatter, she is now safe, out of the teapot, and looking gorgeous.

She gets to the Red Queen’s castle and grows out of her dress. She is naked behind a hedge. The Red Queen likes unusually large things (i.e. her head) and orders a dress made out of the castle’s curtains.
Alice is given a dressing gown to sleep in from the White Queen and fights in armor (no pictures ‘cuz they weren’t amazing)

She leaves Wonderland and emerges a strong woman who becomes a business woman (in a West Indes shipping company).
Costumes aside: the girl who plays Alice, Mia Wasikowska, is beautiful
