I was raised a Catholic so Easter is associated with lots and lots of Church. Did you even know there was a Holy Thursday? I did, I had to go to mass! I remember the midnight mass where I had to listen to the whole story of creation or Good Friday’s shouting of “We want Barabas!”. Why the hell would I choose a murderer over some guy preaching love? So, I guess this is a final goodbye to religious Easter. Hello, peeps and pastels!

Now I don’t have to give up anything for 40 days to gorge myself on chocolate bunnies and Peeps, lol.

Resolutions 2011

So, I started my resolutions early over Christmas break but then I tinkered off a little bit. I hope I can hop back on the wagon and make a difference this year. Also, a positive of this blog is that I have my resolutions from last year. First, let’s see how I did.

1.  Lose 15 pounds.
Considering I don’t know my original weight I can’t be 100% on this but I’m fairly certain I failed.

The Era of the Hipster

I never thought my generation would have a stereotypical fashion that would identify the era. Sure, there are the low-cut jeans and trucker hats, of the late 90′s and 00′s (how would you say that…?) but those seemed to be short-term fads and they are rarely seen today.  However, last semester I noticed that my college town had a small new ‘stylish’ group of kids. This semester it exploded with men on fixed-speed road bikes racing down the road wearing skinny jeans and large-framed glasses. This, my friends, is what I call capsule fashion.  Skinny jeans, deep v-neck shirts, and fake glasses that peg you as a hipster.  Years later, when they look back on the pictures of their glory days I think they will regard their apparel the same way those who lived through the 80′s groan at their clothing choices.

I’m getting annoyed with these hipsters.  Most pretend that they are poor struggling artists or students who have worn-looking t-shirts and pants. However, most of the clothes they buy are expensive and come from hipster cookie-cutter stores like Urban Outfitters and American Apparel. Half don’t have any sense of fashion and simply copy the mannequin looks from the stores or the model’s outfits in the magazines.  The goal is to look like they bought their clothes from Salvation Army or a thrift store and that they’re a penniless hippie even though their wallets are stuffed.  They pretend to care about the world and the issues but how many are actually involved in their community or do something useful with their money other than buy a new fedora or a 30-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer?

I realize that the gender melding is beneficial and the stereotypical masculine guise fades with male hipsters but at what cost?  Do they really mean to make a statement about gender?  Do they even know what gender is (what’s in your mind, not what’s between your legs)?  Most hipsters that I have encountered have a certain bourgeoisie approach to life and frankly, make me feel like a second class citizen for not being able to afford the $28 fedora.

You Really Bother Me

So there’s a blog, that will remain nameless because I don’t want to be that person, that bothers the shit out of me.  There actually seems to be a surge in these types of blogs.  What type am I referring to?

The rich girl with no job that has a ton of designer clothes and

shows us what she’s wearing all the time.

I am interested in high fashion and I love seeing personal style.  However, there is a point where money makes things so much easier.  Of course you are going to have an amazing outfit when you have $1,000 boots that are so original and you couldn’t find anything remotely like it in normal stores.  FYI, I’m not referring to the lovely Tavi who blogs for Pop magazine, covers fashion week shows, is a muse for many designers, and has thoughtful posts where, if she wears some expensive designer item she mentions, in full disclosure, that is was a gift or is on loan.  I’m speaking of the mindless “look at me and the expensive things I’m wearing!” posts.

You’re pretty.  You own nice clothes that you can’t afford yourself (i.e., parents buy them).  Occasionally you take some good pictures.  Congratulations, you are a true inspiration to shallow materialistic people everywhere.

No Ma’am

I admit that I have called a woman ma’am before but I hate the word.  Anyone who has worked in sales or buys anything from salespersons has probably been called ma’am (if you’re a woman, of course…or a feminine appearing man).  Every woman that I know hates the word and here’s why.

1.  Even if I’m 20 years old it makes me feel old.  Women. do. not. want. to. feel. old.  Have you been alive the past ten years?  Aging is horrible and you must invest thousands in trying to stop a natural process!

2.  It is patronizing. I cannot recall the obscene number of times I have been called ma’am by a salesperson who thinks I am “wrong”, “overemotional”, or “uncooperative”.

3.  I have been called ma’am when I have already told the person my name.  Maybe if you made more of an effort in caring about who I am or how you treat people I wouldn’t have to be telling you to not address me as ma’am!

Instead, use “miss”, regardless of age.

It’s your “right” to use the word.  Maybe you think of it as a great descriptor or an empowering word, I disagree.  I think it is a vile word that is another way to degrade women.  I have never thought that I have a “cunt”.  “Cunt” sounds like your vagina is dirty, or unclean, oozing STDs and teeth (one of the odd Freudian beliefs).  Men from Biblical times (i.e. The Book of Leviticus) thought of women’s periods as unclean and made them sacrifice doves.  I just feel like my vagina is better than that!  It’s strong, sexy, life-giving.  For Christ’s sake being a woman is great.

So, Here’s 6 Reasons I Think the Word Cunt Sucks:

6.  I doesn’t even have nice words that rhyme with it.

• Bunt, a lame way to hit the ball in baseball;
• Runt, the smallest of the bunch;
• Punt: a pointless position in football, (can’t they teach the kicker to punt as well?);
• Blunt: okay, so it gets you high BUT there are so many more economical, healthier, yummier ways to do it!  DIRT!

5.  It doesn’t make you cool. You are not edgy or badass because you use it.  You are probably a dirty frat boy.
4.  It’s not sexy; do NOT use it in bed. Please say pussy, lips, clit, SOMETHING else, ANYTHING else.  If we wanted to be “cunt-fucked” we’d ask.  However, “cunt” works if it is used in porn because most of it is just as degrading as the word. (And has been shown to increase aggressiveness in men — look it up, it’s a real study)
3.  There’s no male equivalency. “Dick”/”cock” don’t even come close.
2.  It makes you seem dumber than you are. There’s a certain quality of man that uses the word.  If you’re going to insult us, use your vocabulary.  It’s more scathing if you say it in an intelligent way; it’s harder to just brush off.

1.  If You Were in a Suit You Wouldn’t Say It. Face it, everyone will probably offended or lose all respect for you. If you wouldn’t say it in front of your boss, significant other then don’t say it.  That goes for all other gossiping too!  If you won’t/don’t say it to their face, don’t say it behind their back.

We have a vagina, a clit, or a pussy, not a cunt.

I Don’t Need More Cushioning!

I have always been a 34A.  My boobs grew and stopped and it’s been like that for at least 7 years.  I have come to love them like my boobs including the scar on the left one due to a mole removal.

Well I went shopping over the weekend and the non-sports bras that embraced my cup size was well…non-existent.  My boobs are apparently not large enough as evident by the extreme amount of padding in all of the bras.  I mean, I practically become a B cup with a bra on which makes me embarassed to take off my bra in front of people that I don’t know well.  Like, “oh, that’s all fake?”  I like my small boobs but I wish they would make bras that embraced their shape while providing some support.  I don’t want the triangle bras that do nothing and I don’t want to wear sports bras for the rest of my life.

Damnit I like my A cups, but why don’t the people who make bras like me?
